Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-Calif.) announces the winner of the 37th Congressional District’s 2013 Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery."

Culver City High student Ariana Pacino won first place with her pencil art piece "Secrets." As the winner of the competition, Pacino's artwork will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for a year.

She will also receive two free round-trip airline tickets to Washington, D.C. to attend the unveiling ceremony with Congresswoman Bass, members of Congress and other award winners.

“I’d like to congratulate Ariana for her beautiful artwork. It will be an excellent addition to the halls of Congress this year,” Congresswoman Bass said. "The 37th District has many talented young artists and I'd like to recognize all the hard work that went in to the other creative pieces.”

"I think winning is really cool," Pacino said. "I've never really won a big contest. I'm only a freshman, so I was pretty surprised that I actually won. I'm really excited to come to D.C."

Every spring since 1982, the U.S. House of Representatives sponsors a nationwide high school arts contest designed to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of artists in our nation.
