February 19, 2013

Traffic was snarled Thursday afternoon after 47-year-old Karen Roc of Culver City was crossing Washington Boulevard and was struck and injured by a Culver City K-9 police car.

The police cruiser was driven by a yet unidentified 42-year-old officer and was heading eastbound on Washington approaching Prospect Avenue when it struck the woman as she crossed Washington at 3:17 p.m. She was reportedly on her way to pick up her daughter at school.

She suffered major injuries including a broken pelvis that were described as non-life-threatening. She was transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where she underwent surgery.

The accident forced the closure of both Washington Boulevard and Washington Place until approximately 7 pm. Traffic was already exceptionally heavy due to St. Valentine’s Day traffic. The Culver CityBus line 1 was diverted to Culver Boulevard while MTA lines along Venice Boulevard reported delays of up to 1 ½ hours.

The California Highway Patrol's West L.A. office is investigating the crash.
