Community Development Department

· Chase Bank – Plans have been submitted for a tenant improvement to demolish the existing one-story building and construct a new building located at 6201 Bristol Parkway. Plans include a new trash enclosure and a new drive-thru ATM with canopy.

· eBay – A permit has been issued for a tenant improvement located at 10451 Jefferson Boulevard.

· Zinga – This new yogurt shop is now open and located at 4114 Sepulveda Boulevard.

· Office Depot, Inc. – Plans have been submitted to remodel the store, reducing the size of existing 30,000 square feet store to 16,217 square feet, located at 5640 Sepulveda Boulevard.

· Westfield Culver City – Plans have been submitted for a new clothing store, called Varga.

· Chocovivo – A permit has been issued for a new retail chocolate store located at 12469 Washington Boulevard.

· NFL Network – A permit has been issued for a tenant improvement located at 10900 Washington Boulevard.

· 4043 Irving mixed use project – The project is approximately 54% complete and on budget. Scheduled for completion on June 30, 2013.

· RM Auction House – The Planning Commission approved a Conditional Use Permit to allow auto sales in conjunction with a collector car auction house business at 9510-9512 Jefferson Boulevard.

· West Washington Boulevard Area Improvement Program – Phase III – The third phase of the West Washington Area Improvement Program (AIP) has been successfully completed. The project included the replanting and renovation of five existing streetscape medians at the intersection of Washington Boulevard, Washington Place, Zanja Street and Wade Street. Canopy trees, illuminated decorative panels and drought tolerant plantings similar to Phase I and Phase II have been installed to re-scale the intersection and beautify the area during both the day and night. This completes the first three demonstration projects of the AIP program which commenced in 2009.

Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department

· Administration – In an effort to address concerns related to school safety and the importance of coordination with the Culver City Unified School District the Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services and members of the department staff will be meeting with representatives of CCUSD to discuss issues of safety, evacuation and monitoring of facilities where the City provides programs on campus. These meetings were scheduled to begin during the first week of February.

· Veterans Memorial Building – New tables have arrived and will be placed in the Senior Center and Teen Center as well as the Veterans Memorial Building. New risers and chairs are on order and will arrive early this spring.

· Social Services – On Monday, February 11 at 1 pm the Senior Center will offer a seminar on Living Trusts and the most common estate planning pitfalls. Michael Crupi, MBA, from “The Trust Pros,” will offer his unique insights on estate planning. Like all of its educational programs, this seminar is open to the public ages 50+.

The Senior Center Nifty 90’s Valentine’s Day party will be held Thursday, February 14. In addition to the usual fun party, CCSCA members over 90 years of age are Special Guests. Tickets for this event are on sale at the Senior Center Business Desk.

Certified Dietician Joya Melissa will demonstrate some nutritious and tasty cooking in the Senior Center lunchroom on Friday, February 15 at 1 pm. As part of the Senior Center nutrition education program, Joya will be offering samples along with her healthy eating tips.

The 3^rd Annual Community Conversations series kicks off Saturday, February 16 at 10 am in the Veterans Memorial Building Rotunda Room. This is a free three- part series to help seniors and their family members plan and prepare for happy and healthy aging. In February, Susan B. Police Department

· School Visit - On January 21 children from Village Glen School came to the Police Department for a tour and presentation on safety.

· Tellefson Park Association Meeting - On January 22 Lieutenant Hattrup and Sergeant Kellum attended the Tellefson Park Association meeting. This meeting was also attended by Todd Tipton and Tevis Barnes from the Community Development Department.

· Safety Forum - On January 23 Chief Pedersen and Culver City Unified School District Superintendent David LaRose participated in a safety forum sponsored by the United Parents of Culver City at Veterans Memorial Auditorium. This meeting was well attended by the community.

· Homeless Count-On January 30 Sergeant Irwin participated in the 2013 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count sponsored by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. The event was coordinated by Culver City’s Committee on Homelessness and volunteers.

Public Works Department

· Multi-Family Recycling Program Showcased in Best Practices Report – In 2010, Culver City received a CalRecycle grant to fund the implementation of a Multi-Family Recycling Program. Since then, the Multi-Family Recycling Program has placed source-separated household recycling bins in multi-family housing buildings throughout the City.

The Culver City Multi-Family Recycling Program establishment and implementation has been so successful that it was included in a recent case study prepared for Waste Management, Snohomish County Solid Waste, and the King County Solid Waste Division by Cascadia Consulting Group, both in the state of Washington. This research project identified innovative strategies that have been implemented in communities around the world and that have succeeded in achieving a measurable increase in multi-family recycling.

The City of Culver City’s Environmental Programs and Operations (EPO) Division will continue operating the Multi-family Recycling Program. EPO provides substantial in-kind matching funds primarily through the provision of collection staff and administrative support for ongoing efforts. · Pole Knockdowns– Five streetlight and traffic signal poles have been knocked down in the last month, including one at Centinela Avenue and Washington Place which required significant weekend work by Public Works Maintenance Operations staff. Staff will seek to recover the City’s costs to respond to these knockdowns through the claims process, consistent with the City’s standard procedures.

· Fire Station #2 Door Replacement - The sectional doors at the rear of Fire Station #2 that provide access to the apparatus floor have been replaced with more reliable roll up doors as part of the building improvements Capital Improvement Project. These doors will complete the replacement of all of the doors leading in and out of the apparatus floor area at the Fire Station and will help maintain efficient emergency response from the Station. The work was contracted through Lawrence Doors and managed by Public Works staff.

· Golden State Water Company Construction– Golden State Water Company will be installing a new eight-inch ductile iron water main, fire hydrants, and services on Jackson Avenue from Farragut Drive to Ballona Creek and on Lindblade Avenue from Sepulveda Boulevard to Coombs Avenue. The work will include connecting the new pipe to all the existing pipelines just outside of the intersections.
