Culver’s Basketball Struggles Continue

The struggle continued for the Culver City High boy’s basketball team as it lost its first two Ocean League games last week, bringing their overall record to 4-12.

Culver lost to Morningside, 46-40 and to defending champion Santa Monica, 78-52 in the Vikings’ gym.

“We don’t have tremendous size but we did a good job of getting the ball to our post players,” said Santa Monica coach James Hecht.

“I didn’t think we played an exceptional game but when I looked at the scoreboard I kept seeing we were far ahead.”

Santa Monica led by 42-21 after three quarters.

Defending champion Santa Monica had barely outlasted Inglewood two nights earlier in their league opener.

Culver has been competitive recently, losing three close games before the Santa Monica gam

The high-flying Culver City girl’s basketball team easily won its first two league games, 50-17 over Morningside and 64-46 over Santa Monica.

Coach Julian Anderson’s team has a 12-4 record.
