City Clerk’s Office

· Addition of CCTV 35 to AT&T U-verse - Staff has been working to prepare the City’s Audio/Visual Room pursuant to specifications provided by AT&T to allow U-verse to carry CCTV 35. Preparations are nearing completion and, subject to confirmation of AT&T’s installation schedule, staff expects CCTV to be added to the U-verse channel lineup shortly. Staff will continue to update the City Council as this project moves forward.

· Finance Advisory Committee Application Period Now Open - The first newspaper advertisements for the Finance Advisory Committee applications ran on Thanksgiving Day and will run for the next seven weeks. The notice now appears on the “News and Announcements” section of the City’s homepage. Also, the City Clerk’s Office will be sending periodic notices via the City’s GovDelivery system. The application deadline is Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 5 pm.

· Completion of November 6, 2012 Election Canvass - The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office (RR/CC) posted the unofficial results of the November 6, 2012 Statewide (Presidential) Election early on the morning of November 7, 2012, the RR/CC is expected to prepare a certified statement of the results on November 30, and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider declaring the election results official at their meeting of December 4, 2012. Once the City Clerk’s Office has received an official copy of the Board’s action (usually a few days after the meeting), the Mayor will be presented with the Ordinance approved by voters as Measure Y, for his signature. Upon signature by the Mayor, staff will take all of the necessary steps so that Measure Y’s local sales and use tax will be in place on April 1, 2013.

Community Development Department

· LA Fitness / Bally’s – Plans have been approved for a renovation of the existing gym located at 3827 Overland Avenue.

· Chipotle Mexican Grill – A permit has been issued for a new restaurant located at 4114 Sepulveda Boulevard.

· Jersey Mike's Subs – A permit has been issued for a tenant improvement for a new restaurant located at 4114 Sepulveda Boulevard.

· House of Fitness – Plans have been submitted for a new gym located at 4130 Sepulveda Boulevard.

· Lounge Spa – Plans have been submitted for a new retail spa located at 4130 Sepulveda Boulevard.

· Westfield Culver City – Plans have been submitted for a new restaurant, Chicken Now.

· NFL Network – Plans have been submitted for a tenant improvement located at 10900 Washington Boulevard.

· 4043 Irving – The project is approximately 45% complete, on schedule and on budget. This project is scheduled for completion in May 2013.

· Surplus City-Owned Properties – An Open House will be held on Monday, December 3 from 5 pm to 7 at 11304 Segrell Way (formerly Fire Station 3) to inform the surrounding neighborhoods of the proposed disposition of surplus City-owned properties located at 11304 Segrell Way and 10745 Cranks Road.

· Economic Development Division – Staff is moving forward with an economic development plan that will assess the City's existing economic conditions and develop key economic strategies.

Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department

· Parks and Playgrounds – Culver City Parks will not be staffed on December 25 and January 1, with the exception of the Skate Park, which will be open from Noon to 4 pm both days.

· Annual Holiday Tower Lighting Ceremony on December 7 – The PRCS Department’s annual Tower Lighting Ceremony is coming up on Friday, December 7 at the Veterans Memorial Building. Every year the community gathers just outside next to the film strip fountain to watch from below as the “tree” surrounding Vets Tower is illuminated. The ceremony begins at 6:30 pm with entertainment by children in the City’s various Pre-K activities, choral pieces by the Culver City High boys’ and girls’ choir, and other entertainment. After illuminating the tree, Santa will arrive on a fire truck and there are photo opportunities inside the Rotunda Room with Santa along with holiday crafts and refreshments. This is a free family event.

· Senior Center Holidays – The Senior Center will be bustling with holiday events this December. The Yiddish Group invites everyone to the Festival of Lights on Friday, December 7 from 2 pm to 5 at the Center; the Holiday Talent Showcase will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at 1 pm; and the big Holiday Party will be held on Friday, December 14 at 11:30 am, with tickets on sale for $3.50 at the business desk at the Senior Center.

· Senior Center Holiday Music – Holiday music will fill the halls of the Culver City Senior Center this December. The Colburn School of Music will provide a chamber music concert Wednesday, December 5 at 1:30 pm. The Culver City High AVPA String Orchestra will perform on Wednesday, December 12 at 1 pm. And the What the Dickens Caroling Group will perform from 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm at the Saturday dance on December 22.

· Senior Center Pool Tournament – The 13^th Annual Seniors vs. Safety Pool Tournament will be held on Saturday, December 8, beginning at 9 am. Teams from the Culver City Fire Department, Culver City Police Department and members of the Culver City Senior Center will engage in a friendly competition to see who is superior on green felt.

· Senior Center Support Groups – The Culver City Senior Center is pleased to announce two new support groups for members. “Supporting Each Other” will provide a safe environment to share and discuss general issues of aging and “Young & Active Seniors Supporting Each Other” will be geared toward challenges and topics of interest to our younger members. · Senior & Social Services – RSVP Specialist Jill Thomsen completed the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination and is now a Certified Food Handler. This certification is given by the National Restaurant Association and allows Jill to serve as backup for the Culver City Senior Nutrition Program, which serves 80 to 100 clients each week.

· Youth Empowerment – The Youth Empowerment group at the Teen Center participated in the Heal the Bay Clean Up Day in Santa Monica on November 17^th. The students focused on the northern side of the Santa Monica beaches to ensure that sea life and the natural habitat is protected. The next activity planned is at the Los Angeles Food Bank, stocking food baskets for the holiday season. The Food Bank event is scheduled for December 15^th, with students taking the Expo Line to Downtown Los Angeles to participate in this annual program.

· The Plunge – Culver City Municipal Plunge was open on Thanksgiving Day as well as the Friday after for Long Course Swim. The SQAC Masters Group, Royal Swim Team, Team Santa Monica and our Adult Exercise Group joined our devoted lap swimmers for a before-and-after Thanksgiving meal workout.

· Aquatics – In October, Aquatics Coordinator Diego Cevallos attended the California Aquatic Management School, where he completed a three-day training that included sessions in ADA Standard, Risk Management, Crisis Management and the latest in aquatics training.

· Culver City Plunge Freediving Record – On Sunday, November 11, in the Southern California Apnea Series, 32-year-old Sydney-born actor Tanc Sade set a new national record in the freediving event of Dynamic Apnea at the Culver City Municipal Plunge. Using a monofin, Mr. Sade swam 218 meters – well over two times the length of a football field – on a single breath to become a National Record holder just months after donning a monofin for the first time.

· Veterans Memorial Building – The City of Culver City and the Los Angeles School of Gymnastics will present an Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics Exhibition on Sunday, December 16 at 3 pm in Veterans Memorial Auditorium. · Cultural Affairs – The City of Culver City will present a “Made in Culver City” screening of “A Night at the Opera”, featuring The Marx Brothers, in honor of the City’s 95^th Anniversary, on Saturday, December 29 at 3 pm in Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Police Department

· Reserve Officers Recognized - On November 14^tthe Police Department presented several awards to members of its Reserve Officers Corp. Chief Don Pedersen recognized Reserve Officers Cory Markus, Mark Hoffman, Chris Ng and Lance Ordin. All of these officers volunteered over 500 hours to the Police Department during the year. Reserve Officers Butch Turner and Pete Currenti were recognized for their years of service. Officer Turner has completed 25 years and Officer Currenti 30 years of volunteering their time to the City. Also, Reserve Officer Neil Glickman retired after 14 years of dedicated service to the Culver City Police Department.

Public Works Department

· New Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit – On November 8, 2012, the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board unanimously passed the new Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit. The permit regulates municipalities’ stormwater discharges. .

· Closure of the Northbound Slauson Avenue/Sepulveda Boulevard Exit to the 405 Freeway Beginning November 26 - Caltrans is currently widening the eastside of the northbound I-405 freeway, between La Tijera Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, to provide an auxiliary lane, which is expected to improve traffic flow. As part of this project, the I-405 bridge over Sepulveda Boulevard will be widened. To continue the construction progress and stay on the project’s schedule, Caltrans will close the I-405 northbound off-ramp onto Sepulveda Boulevard (Slauson Avenue off-ramp), beginning Monday, November 26. According to the agreement between Caltrans and their contractor, the ramp closure may last as long as 186 days from the date of closure.

During the off-ramp closure period, motorists can proceed to the next exit (Jefferson Boulevard). To access the Culver City Westfield Mall from that exit, make a right turn onto Jefferson Boulevard, and another right onto Slauson Avenue. The Mall is one block away.
