Redd Leaves Penn State for USC

USC, which lost several football players two years ago when the NCAA penalized the Trojans, got one back this week.
Silas Redd, a running back who gained 1241 yards and scored seven touchdowns for Penn State last season, left there and has two years of eligibility left for USC.
He is the highest profile player of several leaving Penn State following the NCAA’s harsh penalties to the school, including letting players transfer without sitting out a year, in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse sex abuse scandal.
“Coach Lane Kiffin and his staff would not be doing their jobs if they did not try to improve the team. They recruited within the guidelines set by the NCAA,” said USC Athletic Director Pat Haden.
USC can have only 75 players on scholarship this season due to its NCAA sanctions which threaten the Trojans’ depth.
But a player of Redd’s caliber improves the Trojans’ hopes of winning the Pac-12 championship and qualifying for a high level bowl game.
Redd visited UsC last weekend and spent considerable time with quarterback Matt Barkley and receiver Robert Woods/ he t5hen went home to duscuss his options with his family.
USC will open its season Sept. 1 against Hawaii at the Coliseum.
