Kentwood Presents "Doubt"

Kentwood Players presents “DOUBT, A Parable” by John Patrick Shanley from July 13 to August 18 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm at the Westchester Playhouse, 8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester.

The production is directed by Gail Bernardi and produced by Calia Mintzer-Wolf and Linda Reinhardt by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.

“DOUBT, A Parable” won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play. It tells the story of a nun in a Bronx Catholic School in 1964 who suspects a popular priest of inappropriate behavior with a student.

Armed with nothing more than a resolute belief in her suspicions and a few circumstantial details, Sister Aloysius instigates a campaign to remove Father Flynn, the beloved and progressive parish priest, from St. Nicholas School. She enlists the help of Sister James, a young nun in the order, and the child's tormented mother, Mrs. Muller.

The simple, shifting plot leaves all four characters and the audience wondering whether they were justified in their thoughts, motives and actions for as Father Flynn states in his opening sermon, "Doubt can be a bond as powerful and sustaining as certainty."

Featured in the cast are Joanna Churgin as Sister Aloysius, Matt Landig as Father Flynn, Heather Barnett as Sister James, and Jacquelin Schofield as Mrs. Muller. After-performance Q&A sessions with the cast will take place following all Saturday evening performances.
