Mobster, Former Culver Resident, Dead at 69

Mobster turned FBI informant and former Culver City resident Henry Hill has died at the age of 69.

Hill, who lived for a time on Clarmon Place near Raintree Plaza, was made infamous in the movie Goodfellas. Ray Liotta played the part of Hill in the movie.

Hill was once associated with the Lucchese crime family in New York and was involved in such criminal acts as the Lufthansa heist at John F. Kennedy International Airport in December 1978, during which a record $5 million as well as $875,000 in jewels were stolen.

Hill was known for visiting local Culver City pubs where he would tell tales about his days as a gangster and the people he had killed. When asked if he wasn’t supposed to reveal his identity he would respond, “Naw all the people I ratted out are either dead or in prison.” Nervous patrons however kept one eye on the door just in case.

Hill was finally booted from the witness protection program for his stories and continued criminal behavior.
