After rejecting the Conditional Use Permit Modification (CUP) by a vote of 3-2 of The Help Group to add 250 students the planning commission will reconsider their action.

They voted to deny the proposed Modification of the existing Conditional Use Permit to allow for the conversion of an existing two-story medical office building on The Help Group campus into school facilities and the addition of 250 students.

After the commission voted on May 23 to reject the CUP, the Help Group offered to lower the proposed enrollment and make other modifications to their proposal.

Commissioner Linda Smith Frost, who voted against the original proposal, introduced a motion to reconsider the project. The reconsideration passed by a vote of 3-2.

Commissioners John Kuechle and Scott Wyant voted against the motion to reconsider.

The Help Group is located at 12095 Washington Boulevard, the location of the former Washington Hospital.

The Help Group serves children with special needs related to autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD, developmental delays, abuse and emotional problems.

Currently the campus serves 400 students.

At the public hearing the Planning Commission will review and receive public input on the proposed changes to the project. The public is invited to participate in the public hearing.

The Planning Commission staff report will be available for viewing on the City’s website on or after June 7 at http://www.culvercity.org/agendas, or at the City Hall Planning Division, or the Julian Dixon Library, 4975 Overland Avenue, Culver City.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 7 pm in the Mike Balkman Council Chambers at City Hall.
