Scouts Serve Up Food, Fun at Spaghetti Dinner

More than 500 local residents turned out for Boy Scout Troop 113’s annual spaghetti dinner on Saturday, and the Scouts personally delivered another 100 free meals to the Senior Center on Overland Avenue for the center’s evening dinner and dance.

The main event was held in the Culver City High cafeteria. The Scouts waited on tables and handled clean-up duties, while their parents worked in the kitchen to prepare and serve an all-you-could eat buffet of pasta, salad, garlic bread and non-alcoholic drinks.

Many attendees arrived after participating in the American Cancer Society’s daylong “Relay for Life” event that was held at nearby Helms Field. Others came with tickets that Troop 113 had donated to the Senior Center in addition to the 100 meals that were hand-delivered for the dinner and dance later that night.

The spaghetti dinner is the Scout’s biggest fundraiser of the year. For each $5 ticket sold, $4 of the amount is put directly into the seller’s “Scout account” to help pay for campout fees and other fun events throughout the year.

Much of the food and supplies are donated by local markets and other businesses, while others are purchased from their cash contributions.

Troop 113 has been serving Culver City’s youth and the entire community for nearly 60 years. For information about joining, contact Erik Mayer at scoutmaster@bsatroop113.org or visit http://www.bsatroop113.org.
