Offensive Problems Plague Centaurs

April 11, 2012

After struggling in non-league play during the holiday period the Culver City High baseball team drew this evaluation from Coach Rick Prieto.

“We had good pitching and defense but could not execute offensively,” he said.

The Centaurs lost a home doubleheader to Capistrano Valley Christian, then lost to St. John Bosco, 4-1.

Daruan Sylvester had two hits in one of the games against Capistrano Valley Christian and Jay Steiner pitched 4 2/3 innings without a decision.

In the loss to St. John Bosco Culver scored on a two-out walk to Jay Stern, who stole second, and a double by Tyler Mark. But in the remaining innings the Centaurs left seven runners in scoring position.

Culver’s overall record is 9-6, including 2-0 in the Ocean League. The Centaurs finished second to Santa Monica last season.

Culver was scheduled fpr a unique doubleheader Wednesday against nationally-ranked Harvard Westlake. The first game was at Culver in the afternoon, the second at USC in the evening.
