Dear Neighbors

March 28, 2012

I’ve lived around the corner from Scott Malsin for the past 12 years. He is truly my “neighbor.” I got to know Scott when he was working to have trees planted along my street and throughout our neighborhood. It was the first in a long list of wonderful changes he has helped to bring to Culver West.

I became more aware of his contributions to the children and youth of our city when the Culver City Council of PTAs awarded him an “Honorary Service Award” two years ago. I was responsible for weaving all of his contributions into a three minute skit and it wasn’t easy! Scott Malsin has done a lot for our kids.

But what impresses me most about Scott is how earnestly he interacts with the folks he was elected to represent. Scott always carries a small notebook and pen to be able to write down the concerns and issues from people in Culver City. He advised me to do this as well when I ran for the school board because he feels so strongly that an elected official must be responsive to the needs of his or her community.

When walking the precincts with Scott, I saw how he takes time to speak with the people he meets. He is not interested in covering ground; he is interested in addressing people's concerns. He will sit on their stoops, stand by their cars or hang out on their porches listening and really get to know the issues that matter to them, sometimes discussing the history of the issue, and often sharing ideas for solving problems.

If you want to have a City Councilman whose thoughtful intelligence is only outshined by his responsiveness and dedication, then please vote for Scott Malsin. I know I will.
