City Names Sellers New Fire Chief

Mayor Armenta Praises Choice Within Department Ranks

The City Council of the City of Culver City has announced the appointment of Christopher Sellers as the City’s Fire Chief. Chief Sellers will assume the Fire Department’s top position on June 1, 2010. Chief Sellers fills the position that was vacated by Chief Jeffrey Eastman who retired in December 2009 after 32 years of service with the City of Culver City. Chief Sellers competed within a highly qualified applicant pool during the recruitment for this position.

Chief Sellers has 28 years of progressive fire service experience; with 26 years at the City of Culver City. During the past 14 years, Chief Sellers has held supervisory, administrative and upper management positions in fire suppression, emergency medical services and fire administration. Chief Sellers has a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Administration and Technology. He is also a California State Fire Marshal and certified as a Chief Officer, Fire Officer, Fire Prevention Officer and Fire Instructor. Chief Sellers most recently served as the Acting Fire Chief for the City Culver City, a position he has held since December 2009.

Some of Chief Sellers’ recent accomplishments include playing a key role in the City’s Fire Department in its Fire Accreditation in 2009; developing and implementing the Area “A” Operations Bulletins to enhance resource availability; developing and implementing the City’s Emergency Preparedness Committee and Emergency Operations Center relocation; and securing funding for the expansion of the Interagency Communications Interoperability System (ICIS).

Mayor Christopher Armenta states, “The City Council is proud to welcome Chief Sellers to the position. Over the past several years, I have had the privilege to work with Chief Sellers, and I recognize his outstanding service to the City of Culver City. While this was a competitive recruitment process, the City Council is confident in its choice in appointing this exceptional individual to serve as Fire Chief.”
