AVPA's Nicholas Nickleby Selected by CETA

December 10, 2009

Every year the Southern Region of CETA (California Educational Theatre Association) holds a high school Theatre Festival. The festival showcases four mainstage shows which have been selected from each of the four regions of Southern California: Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire, and San Diego County. This year CETA selected Culver City High School's Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (AVPA) cast and crew of Nicholas Nickleby as the first place winners in all of Los Angeles County. Nicholas Nickleby, directed by Sheila Silver, AVPA's Creative Director of Theatre, played to nine sold-out performances at the SPoT in November.

Ms. Silver comments, "If you felt the earth shake around 10:15 on Monday [December 7], it was from the screams of joy when the announcement was made to the students—better than any reality show you could ever watch! Thank you to all who supported our production by attending and in spirit." The entire production will be remounted and performed for over 2000 theatre students during Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend at the annual CETA Festival.
