John Felix died at home in Culver City on October 9 at the age of 94. He will be missed by family and friends who enjoyed his cheerful personality, and stories about his youth, Army days, Hollywood Park, and real estate career in Culver City.

John’s first job was as a youngster selling vegetables from a horse-drawn cart in Lowell Massachusetts. He was so successful his employer purchased an additional cart for him to use; thus beginning a life-long career in sales.

Johnny served in the Army in Panama, Torrey Pines, and as part of an artillery team in the Philippines during World War II.

After the war, he settled in his beloved Southern California. His first job was at Thrifty Drug Store in Beverly Hills. After pursuing several ventures, he worked with and subsequently married his now deceased wife Pearla P. Staples. She affectionately referred to him as her “sports nut husband.” Together they operated as many as five real estate offices throughout Culver City.

Johnny was a past president of the Culver City Realty Board. He and Pearla were particularly known for their ability to help many couples find a way to finance their first home.

Johnny and Pearla were devoted supporters of the Culver-Palms YMCA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the YMCA at 4500 So. Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City, CA 90230
