The Culver City Rotary Club is participating in a Halloween Candy Drive,
collecting candy for distribution to children at the Mount St. Mary’s College annual Halloween night at their Doheny Campus in Downtown Los Angeles. Over 5,000 people attend this event that is designed to provide a safe and fun environment for the neighboring at-risk community. Their goal is to collect 13,000 lbs. of candy! Carmela Raack at firstname.lastname@example.org has all the information.
A wonderful way to acknowledge Disability Awareness Month (October) is the seventh Annual Carnival for Children with Disabilities. Kids with disabilities – along with parents and siblings – are invited to attend this free event from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 on Sunday, October 25 at the Culver City Senior Center, but an RSVP is necessary. Participants will enjoy free food and snacks, carnival games and prizes, arts and crafts, and entertainment. To register, call (310) 253-6732 leaving your name, contact phone, and the number in your family who will be attending. Among those making this event happen are the Culver City Exchange Club, Culver City Girl Scouts, and the Senior Citizens Association.
If anyone attended classes at Culver City Junior High School during the ‘50’s and was lucky enough to have Nyda (Shank) Sharritt as their teacher, send us your memories. Mrs. Shank passed away a short time ago and, since that at her request there were no services, a few former students would like to compile and publish a proper obituary to pay tribute to this warm, lovely educator. Send your memories to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Another great musical event for Culcitizens to enjoy takes place at 8 p.m. this Saturday with the Culver City Symphony’s “Season Premiere: City Music, Ten Years in Culver City.” The program, under the direction of conductor Frank Fetta, will include Stravinsky: Fanfare for a New Theater (1964); Mendelssohn: Hebrides Overture (1830); Copland: Quiet City (1940;)Hoffmeister: Concerto for Bass and Strings (1780) with Aleskey Klyushnik-Bass, Senior Division Winner, Concerto Competition; and Beethoven’s: Symphony No. 7 (1812 .) Program subject to change. There is no admission charge for this concert, which takes place at Veteran's Memorial Auditorium, and parking is also free.
