Active America Comes To Culver-Palms

The Culver-Palms Family YMCA will partner with the community to keep America fit and healthy.

The YMCA is opening its doors for a week-long open house filled with wellness lectures and screenings, fun classes and community neighborhood events, culminating in a Health Expo at the YMCA branch on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with health vendors and screenings, exercise demos and lectures. RSVP’s appreciated.

Sunday 10:30 am . Pilates in the Park with Janice Ward at Lindbergh Park. An hour of Pilates to stretch and strengthen.

Monday 9a.m.to 11. Blood Pressure Screening. CVS Minute Clinic will join with the YMCA to offer free blood pressure screenings in the lobby.

Tuesday2, 6:30 p.m.. Community Walk. Come meet a YMCA staff person at your local park to enjoy a 60 minute walk with neighbors and friends. Meeting spots: Veteran's Park at the fountain, El Marino Park at the El Marino sign on Berryman, and Culver City Park aka Bill Bott’s Park at the lower parking lot. Staff will be in a bright blue YMCA staff shirt.

Wednesday, 10 am Health Care Insurance Reform Discussion. Program analyst Odille Hansen will lead a discussion covering the pertinent issues of Health Care Insurance Reform.

Wednesday:6:30 .p.m. CVS Flu Prevention. CVS minute clinic will present an hour lecture on how to recognize, prevent, and care for both the seasonal and Swine Flu.

Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Perfect Portions Lecture. Dietician, Jan Lerner DeFeo, MS, RD, will discuss how proper food portioning can help you and your family maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. This event is free and open to the public.

Friday at 6:30 p.m. Salsa Night Community Night. Shake your hips and dance the week away. It’s Salsa Night at the YMCA! Come with your friends to Cardio Salsa class and then stay to unwind with chips & salsa courtesy of our friends at Kay n’ Dave’s Mexican Cantina.This event is free and open to the community.

8 a.m. Walk Clinic at Veteran’s Park (meet at the fountain).

10 a.m. Stroke Screening, Prospect Medical

10 a.m. 1:00pm: Health & Fitness booths

10:15 a.m. Pilates demo

10:30 a.m. Making Fitness Work for You.

Daniel Landry, our Healthy Lifestyles Director, will teach you how to incorporate health and fitness into your busy life. The key is personalization! Find which solutions will best work for you and your family.

11 a.m. Martial Arts demo

11:30 a.m. Breakdance demo

noon. Yoga Life lecture & demo

Nikita Gupta will be discussing the physical and spiritual benefits of incorporating yoga into your life. A half-hour lecture will be followed by a 30-minute introductory yoga class.
