On October 17-21, an official delegation headed by Culver City (CC) Mayor Albert Vera, CC Council Member Freddy Puza, along with Culver City Sister City Committee (CCSCC) President Lisa Saperston, and five other CCSCC board members, visited Iksan City, South Korea to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of their Sister City relationship.

During their stay, the group paid courtesy visits to the Iksan City Council and to the Mayor of Iksan where symbolic gifts were exchanged. The delegation was special guests at the Opening Ceremony of the 10 Million Chrysanthemum Festival, which has been held in the City of Iksan for the past 20 years. At the event, Mayor Albert Vera delivered a congratulatory speech and presented Iksan with a Proclamation confirming the importance of our sister city relationship.

Iksan, a capital city to an ancient kingdom, is the home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites dating back to 649 AD. Currently, the city is known for its agriculture and booming jewelry industry. The delegation had the opportunity to learn about the local culture and rich history by visiting a number of the historical sites, experiencing a Korean Hanok Village while dressed in traditional hanbok attire, touring the Iksan Jewelry Museum and enjoying Korean food. Most importantly, the group had the opportunity to strengthen the relationship between our cities and make new friends!

We would like to extend our appreciation for our Culver City community that has been supporting CCSCC efforts with Iksan for the past 40 years!!
